The Way Of St Patrick Launch Night

Scripture Union Ireland in partnership Jesus Film Project presents The Way of St.Patrick a three part series exploring the real St.Patrick. Taken from his home, shaped by suffering, and called back with purpose, this is the journey that formed one of history’s most influential figures.

Told through cinematic storytelling, animation, and on-location drama, the series looks beyond the legend to reveal the man behind the myth — and how faith, courage, and hardship shaped his life, and ultimately a nation.

Our hope is that this series becomes a resource that helps rekindle faith among young adults in a spiritually curious world, inviting them to seek God and respond courageously to His call.

Surnames and DNA in Ireland

Our next Talk is on the subject of "Surnames and DNA in Ireland." The Talk is on Monday February 9th. It will be at 8p.m in Kilmacanogue Parish Hall (Eircode A98 YD98). Last year two very popular Talks we had were genealogy related- John Brazil's Talk on the DNA of People in Ireland and Sean J. Murphy's talk about Irish Surnames. Many people might not be so much aware of ongoing research into the DNA of people in Ireland.

Our Speaker John Brazil M.A. has been involved in this type of research into Genetic Genealogy since 2014 and he is a volunteer Project Administrator with Family Tree DNA, investigating DNA and history around the Irish Sea, the Western Isles of Scotland, Orkney and Scandinavia. He has worked in biomedical science in Ireland since 1974. He has a longstanding interest in family history and genealogy.

He will look at what DNA can tell us about the five most common Irish surnames in Ireland (Murphy, Kelly, Walsh, O' Connor, and O'Sullivan) and also, briefly about a less common surname, Brazil - his own. Now don't worry if you don't have one of those surnames, you're sure to hear something to interest you about what we can learn from D.N.A. research. Promises to be a fascinating Talk, not to be missed.
