Care, Prayer, and Support in a Time of Loss

At the time of bereavement, the Church is here to walk alongside you with compassion, dignity, and prayer. We are honoured to support families in giving thanks for the life of a loved one and in commending them into God’s keeping.

A funeral service at St Patrick’s reflects both grief and hope — grief at parting, and hope in the promise of eternal life.

Arranging a Funeral

Funeral arrangements are usually made in the first instance through your funeral director, who will liaise with the parish. You are also very welcome to contact us directly.

Our Rector, Rev. Cathy Hallissey, will meet with you to discuss the service, helping to plan something that is personal, respectful, and appropriate.

We will guide you gently through each step.

The Funeral Service

The Church of Ireland funeral service is a time of thanksgiving, remembrance, and prayer. Together, we give thanks for the life of your loved one and lovingly commend them into God’s eternal care and mercy.

The service is shaped to offer comfort and hope to those who mourn, with gentle prayers, readings from Scripture, and a reflection that speaks of God’s presence with us in both life and death. Hymns or music that were meaningful to your loved one may be included, helping to create a service that is personal as well as prayerful.

Funeral services may take place in the church, at a crematorium, or at the graveside, according to the wishes of the family. Wherever they are held, our aim is to support you with dignity, compassion, and faith at this difficult time.

A Personal and Thoughtful Service

Each funeral is prepared with great care and sensitivity, reflecting the life and character of your loved one. Families are warmly invited to be involved in shaping the service, choosing readings and hymns — and we are always happy to offer guidance and suggestions if that is helpful.

Where appropriate, personal memories or tributes may be included, and any particular wishes or family traditions can be gently discussed.

Our hope is to help create a service that is both deeply meaningful and prayerful, offering comfort, dignity, and a fitting farewell.
